Tequila Traditions at BHR

Since the beginning, when we hosted our first wedding at Blame Her Ranch, we have asked couples to bring a bottle of their favorite tequila for our “Rub a Little, Drink a Little” bar. Over the years, even with the stipulation, that the tequila should be enjoyed by the couple and their guests, we have amassed quite a collection.

All the tequila brought to the ranch by couples and their pictures live on the bar upstairs in the main lodge. In addition to our love for the Mexican spirit, we put together a list of ways to incorporate tequila into your wedding ceremony.

1. Shots to seal and celebrate your Union

After the officiant announces you can now kiss your bride or groom, why not seal the
ceremony with a shot of tequila and pass out a shot that can be enjoyed by your guests.

2. Personalized tequila shots

Welcome guests to the wedding party with personalized tequila shots and a lime garnish. Add cute name tags or toothpick tags with each guest’s name to make each shot extra special.

3. Hire a tequila donkey and handler

We mentioned the tequila donkey Rosita in a previous post, but we will mention her again! It doesn’t have to be Rosita but incorporating a tequila donkey to serve your guests on the main lawn is a fun and memorable addition to your special day. Hashtag #tequiladonkey for sure!

Tequila Facts:

Tequila is made from the blue agave plant and is a product of Mexico. Mexican law stipulates that the spirit must originate from one of only five states: Jalisco, parts of Guanajuato, Tamaulipas, Michoacan, and Nayarit.

Typically bottled between 35 and 55 proof. In the United States tequila is 40% ABV; Mexico 35% ABV and Europe 38% ABV.

I guess the moral of this story is that Americans like their tequila strong!
