Trail Riding at BHR

One of the best things about staying at Blame Her Ranch is, if you are a horseback rider, or wanting to try, the ranch has got you covered. Blame Her Ranch sits on the southernmost tip of Glorieta Mesa and in addition to the ranch’s 2,000 private acres, connects with the Santa Fe National Forest and miles of horseback riding trails.

The Santa Fe National Forest is a protected national forest in northern New Mexico—established in 1915, it covers 1,558,452 acres. Elevations range from 5,300 feet to 13,103 feet at the summit of Truchas Peak, located within the Pecos Wilderness.

“It is a wonderful place for trail riding,” says BHR owner Steve Blamer. We have a great horseman, Isaiah Gallegos who brings his horses up to the ranch and takes guests for rides.”

Gallegos has been taking ranch guests on horseback rides for several years, lives right down the road from the ranch and operates from mid-March to the end of October. His horses are very “broke” and suitable for all levels and ages of riders. One of the highlights of the rides he says is when you “get up to a high place and look back over the valley at the land below.”

Horseback riding in the National Forest offers a varied terrain from dense pine forests, natural ponds, and grassy meadows. There is also a plethora of wildlife riders may encounter from wild turkey, mule deer and elk to various songbirds.

If you want to add horseback riding to your stay at Blame Her Ranch, let us know the rider’s abilities and ages so we can work together to create an unforgettable ride.
